Natoaganeg Chief George Ginnish issued a statement on social media on behalf of himself and the band council asking community members to be aware that “there has been an assault in a residence in the community.” He said a person had been apprehended and another was at large.

Ginnish asked residents to stay in their homes, lock their doors, and call the RCMP if they saw anything suspicious. He issued a subsequent statement saying the person being tracked by police was in custody.

Services at St. Joachim’s Roman Catholic Church in the community were cancelled Sunday morning due to the police operation, Ginnish said.
